What's up conferences November 17h at 9h am with Dr. Shimon Rachmilevitch from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel, and Dr. Caroline Halde, from the Université Laval

The conference

Our first joined meeting with Centre SEVE brought Dr. Shimon Rachmilevitch (online) from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel and Dr. Caroline Halde (in person), from the Université Laval in a discussion about climate change, plant below-ground interactions and organic agriculture.

“Below-ground interactions in a changing environment”, Dr. Shimon Rachmilevitch’s presented the critical role of below-ground processes in ecosystem functioning. Professor Rachmilevitch highlighted the complex network of communications between different organisms through the exchange of important molecules, including defense signals. He showed how the understanding of these interactions is particularly important in the context of climate change and desertification.

Meanwhile, Dr. Caroline Halde’s presentation, entitled “Organic agriculture as a climate change adaptation and mitigation strategy: challenges and opportunities”, centered around the potential of organic agriculture as a solution to climate change. Dr. Halde explained what organic agriculture is, and how it could assist in the adaptation to climate crisis, and how this strategy helps control greenhouse gas emissions.
